The latest political developments both domestically and regionally, as well as ways to strengthen peace in the region, were the topic of our discussion with Her Excellency Elizabeth Kennedy Trudeau, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. We reiterated that Iraq is making steady progress toward advancement and prosperity, having undergone major shifts in stability across various levels. On the service and development fronts, the country has achieved significant milestones and continues on the path toward sustainable stability and inclusive growth. In addition, Iraq is a key player in the region and contributes greatly to its stability.We highlighted that Iraq has completed all necessary preparations to host Arab leaders for the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad — a key platform for joint consultations on the challenges facing the Arab world and the region at large, and for delivering strong messages of support to Iraq and its people.We emphasized the importance of the upcoming elections as a cornerstone for reinforcing stability, representing a decisive step toward long-term peace. We encouraged broad, informed participation, and called on political parties and candidates to engage in program-based competition.We also expressed hope that the ongoing negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States will lead to an agreement that spares both sides and the region from escalation, while reflecting positively to overall regional stability.
