واقع السجناء السياسيين ومدى الاستفادة من تجاربهم وطاقاتهم في مختلف المجالات، كان من أبرز الملفات التي بحثناها مع رئيس مؤسسة السجناء السياسيين، الأستاذ وليد السهلاني، حيث بيّنا أن هذه الشريحة تمثل “الشهداء الأحياء”، الذين قدّموا التضحيات وتحملوا شتى أنواع الضغوط والتعذيب في سجون النظام البائد، دفاعًا عن قضايا الشعب العراقي العادلة.ودعونا أيضًا إلى توثيق تلك المآثر بمختلف وسائل التوثيق، من خلال أدوات الفن، والأدب، والمناهج التربوية، مؤكدين أهمية أن تتعرّف الأجيال على تلك المرحلة ومآسيها، كي لا تتكرر مرة أخرى.وشددنا كذلك على ضرورة الاستفادة من تنوّع هذه الشريحة المهمة، ففيها الأطباء والعلماء والفنانون والأدباء والكفاءات العلمية، ودعونا إلى وضع منهاج واضح لاستثمار هذه الطاقات في خدمة البلاد، كما أكدنا ضرورة تعديل القانون بما يضمن حقوقهم، ويُوصل رسالة اهتمام حقيقية بهذه الشريحة الوطنية المهمة.The status of political prisoners and the potential to benefit from their experiences and talents across various fields was a central topic in our meeting with Mr. Waleed Al-Sahlani, Head of the Political Prisoners Foundation. We emphasized that this group represents the "living martyrs"—individuals who made profound sacrifices and endured severe torture and oppression in the prisons of the former regime in defense of the Iraqi people’s just causes.We also stressed the importance of preserving and documenting their legacy through diverse means such as art, literature, and educational curricula, to ensure that future generations are aware of that painful chapter in our history and to prevent its recurrence.Additionally, we highlighted the rich diversity of this important group, which includes doctors, scientists, artists, writers, and professionals from various fields. We called for the development of a clear strategy to harness their skills in the service of the nation. We further emphasized the need to amend existing legislation in a way that secures their rights and reflects a genuine commitment to honoring this vital national segment.
